Kolukkumalai-Korangini-Topstation Trek | SKolukkumalai Camp | Camping in Kurangini Hills .

Munnar is in tri-junction of three mountain ranges of Western Ghats, namely Anamalai, Palani Hills and Elamalai. Anamudi the highest peak South India of Himalaya is located in this tri-junction. Mountains stretch from Anamudi foothills to Kodaikanal is the Palani hill tract. The Palani hill tract in its West end spreads north –south from Valantine’s Gap (8th Mile Gap) to Kolukkumalai. There the south edge of these mountain ranges faces an abrupt end forming Korangini crater between Kolukkumalai Hills and Body hills. The altitude variation from Korangini (600MSL) to Kolukkumalai (2300MSL)is 1700MSL in 3kms. Korangini is a small village located in the foothill of Kolukkumalai Mountains. It is an ancient settlement. People of Kottagudi and Koragini village uses mountain passage to Topstation connecting Vattavada, Polur, and Keezhanavayal villages up in Palani hill tract. It was through this passage, the British planters brought their factory boilers to Munnar. It was through this passage that old rope way installed between Top Station and Korangini. A multiple days trek between Kolukkumalai –Korangini –Topstation offers bizarre experiences with unusual mix of forests, grasslands, villages, life and sport. It would need minimum 2 nights and 3 days to experience this trails. This is the extreme trek which is available in Munnar. There are many options for the treks in descending and ascending order. One can do a 5 nights and 6 days trek Munnar back to Munnar in foot through this trail. .
