Chinnar is an amazingly diverse wildlife sanctuary with unique flora and fauna, geography and history. Located in undulated eastern slope of Anamalais, Chinnar is surrounded by high mountains peaks of 2000 plus meters, and lay under the rain-shadow of those mighty mountains. The open dry forests of its plateau, lush riparian forests of riverbeds, deciduous forests of slopes and high grassland and sholas of upland create a mega biodiversity within a short span of space. The plateau was home for ancient people from Mesolithic to historic period, which left archaeological monuments like cave arts and megaliths. Wildlife tourism in Chinnar offers the following activies
Chinnar shares its flora and fauna with Anamalaia Tiger Reserve. It is an elephant country harbours 28 species of mammals, 225 species of birds , 52 species of reptiles, 156 species of butterflies etc. Best time to visit Chinnar for wildlife viewing is between November and March.
